SEVEN EGYPTIAN DANCE TROUPE
Seven Egyptian Dance Troupe is made up of an Egyptian choreographer & Egyptian folk dance enthusiasts, choreographed and directed by Egyptian master teacher Mohamed Ali. Mohamed was born in Alexandria, Egypt and began dancing in 1998 with a local dance troupe. He moved forward in his dance career by joining the Alexandria Ministry of Culture dance troupe (El Horrya Folk dance troupe in Alexandria) in 2003. He learned a lot about folk dance from his director and teacher Mr. Nasr El din Mohamed. He traveled extensively internationally with the troupe, including Uzbekistan, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, India, Dubai, USA, Turkey, Greece, etc. He currently teaches and performs both locally in the United States as well as internationally at festivals and workshops. His troupe performs Egyptian folk dance including Saidi, Nubian, Iskandrani, Haglla, Bambouti, Simsmia, Melaya leff, Fellahi, Shaabi and Tanoura.
Hany Morgan
Master Egyptian Percussionist specializing in Sufi Spirit - derbeki/tabla, duff, tura/segat. El Tanoura Troupe, Cairo & Arabesque Canada, Toronto - performance & instruction.
Hany Morgan began playing percussion at age five and performing Sufi drum and dance at age seven. Raised in a musical family in Cairo, Egypt, he was surrounded by musical art and taught to play the Darbuka by his father. The Morgan family performed Islamic traditional religious choral music in the time of King Farouk. As well as the Darbuka, Hany plays the duff, segat and naye.
Hany has been the lead drummer for Egypt's famous El Tanoura Dance Troupe in the Sufi tradition for 15 years. He has toured the globe with this large ensemble sponsored by the Egyptian government. As well as composing and teaching, he records and tours with many other musical and dance productions worldwide.
Farid Edris
A musician from Syria who masters the Oud. he immigrated to Canada in late 2016. Farid loves Eastern Music especially The Egyptian Art pioneers such as Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Umm Kulthum, and Farid Al-Atrash. Farid plays The Oud since the 80th. We are so happy having Farid with us this year, we hope you all enjoy some of his fantastic music.
ASRA
Asra is a highly respected dancer and choreographer in the Winnipeg Bellydance community. She
is passionate about Middle Eastern dance in all its forms and has travelled throughout Egypt,
Turkey and Morocco to pursue dance training and develop a greater understanding of the music
and culture in these countries. She is committed to presenting her audience with the finest Middle
Eastern dance Winnipeg has to offer.
ACCALIA
A Manitoba Arts Council grant recipient and Dance Manitoba Gold Award recipient, Accalia is the
founder and director of Deep Roots ॐ Strong Dance® dance company. She performs at
weddings, restaurants, and Festivals. Accalia is a Certified Datura Style™ (Bellydance)
practitioner who loves to teach dance, and is based at Nafro Studios in Osborne Village.
ZAFIRAH
Zafirah brings more than 17 years of dance experience to the stage. Her passion for Middle
Eastern dance shows in her strong technique and versatility, delighting her audiences with
multiple styles including modern Egyptian, folkloric, and fusion. Zafirah is well-respected in the
Winnipeg Bellydance community and can often be found performing with dance partner Asra. She
is a skilled seamstress and costume designer - proudly presenting several of her creations on the
Folklorama stage.
KEVLA
Specializing in Egyptian and Cabaret Bellydance, Kevla is an international award-winning
Winnipeg dancer. Bringing years of extensive study in ballet, jazz, and modern to her love of
Middle Eastern dance gives her versatility and dedication to be reckoned with. She has been
performing as a professional soloist since 2014, and prior to that with professional dance troupes
such as Amar Egyptian Dance and Starfire Bellydance Collective.
